WHAT IS LEAD?

“Honolulu LEAD (Let Everyone Advance w/ Dignity) is the community expansion of the Law Enforcement Assisted Diversion program. Working with community leaders in Waikiki, LEAD diverts people involved in low-level community concerns and criminal offenses from the criminal justice system into public health services. LEAD offers individualized, intensive case management with people using principles of non-judgement, respect, and mutual collaboration to sustain long-term growth toward their goals and a healthy relationship within their community.

 

LEAD demonstrates that non-coercive and non-punitive approaches public health concerns like substance use disorder and criminal activity related to homelessness can be more effectively and humanely addressed outside of the criminal justice system with effective communication with public safety partners in the community.

 

LEAD offers individualized, intensive case management with people using principles of non-judgement, respect, and mutual collaboration to sustain long-term growth toward their goals and a healthy relationship within their community. The types of services accessed are entirely determined by individual participants and their case manager.

 

Referrals are coordinated through community leaders involved with our Community Leadership Team.
