LIVING WITH HIV

Are you living with HIV on the island of O'ahu? The Hawai'i Health & Harm Reduction Center (HHHRC) is the link to HIV specific medical and social services on O'ahu. People living with HIV can face a number of challenges while finding out what resources are available to assist.

 

At HHHRC, experienced medical case managers help individuals living with HIV access existing resources such as medical care, housing assistance, financial benefits, mental health services, and support.

 

 

If you are living with HIV, and would like to learn more about the services HHHRC can provide, please call us at 808-521-2437 to set up an intake interview with a medical case manager.

Become a Client

Anyone who is living with HIV and lives on O'ahu is eligible to become a HHHRC client. Required documents include:

  • Medical health verification.

  • Local residency verification.

 

To schedule a pre-screening either at our office or in a place you feel comfortable, or to learn more about the services HHHRC offers, call 808-521-2437.  As a client of HHHRC, you can receive:

Linkage to Services

  • Referral to HIV specialists.

  • Referral to local pharmacies.

  • Referral to drug and premium assistance programs.

  • Referral to biomedical preventions for negative partners (PrEP and PEP).

  • Referral to STI screenings and treatment.

Supportive Services

  • Individual and group counseling.

  • Accessing medical, financial, and housing benefits.

  • Medical transportation.

  • Emergency pantry and hygiene for houseless clients.

  • Intensive supportive services to medically fragile clients.

 

Clinical Studies

Here are the current on-going studies being offered at Clint Spencer Clinic. If you are interested please contact Cris @ 808-692-1335.

  • Couples Needed for Cancer Research Study:  The Hawaii Center for AIDS is looking for couples to participate in a study.   The study is looking at HPV and anal cancer.  If you are living with HIV and your partner is HIV negative you both may be eligible for this study.  Compensation is available.  Call Cris at 808-692-1335.

  • Hawaii-Philippines Study:    Volunteers are needed who are 18-44 and taking anti-HIV medications for 1-year and undetectable or HIV Negative.  Call Debbie at 808-692-1332.

  • Immune Cell Study:  This study will look at the differences in a white blood cell, monocyte, in patients with and without HIV infection.  You may qualify to join the study if you are between the ages of 18-45, do not have any current illness, and are living with HIV, taking anti-HIV medication, or HIV-negative.  Compensation is available.  Call Debbie at 808-692-1332.

  • Assessing Strength, Balance, and Gait in HIV:  Adults over 18 are needed to join this study on frailty in people who are HIV negative or positive.  Compensation given.  Contact Nancy at 808-692-1336,

Hawai‘i Health & Harm Reduction Center is committed to the health and safety of our clients, patients, community, and staff. The following changes are effective immediately and will be in place until further notice:

  • We have reduced our hours of operation. Please click here for our new temporary hours.

  • HHHRC is suspending all walk-in services except for current clients. We are not accepting new patients or referrals at this time, with the exception of newly diagnosed HIV+ individuals. Please check out Waikiki Health Center or contact your primary care provider for HIV, HCV and STI testing.

  • All events through the end of April are canceled or postponed; please contact aogata@hhhrc.org for details.

  • Syringe exchange times are changing each week. Please call the numbers listed on the SEP page for more info.

  • We will continue to see existing appointments as scheduled. If you are experiencing flu-like symptoms, please contact your primary care provider immediately.
