HHHRC participated in this year’s HANOCON, where Policy & Advancement Manager Nikos Leverenz joined Melissa Pavlicek of Hawaiʻi Public Policy Advocates and Hale Kipa CEO Venus Rosete-Medeiros in a panel discussion on the True Cost Coalition. Over 80 people attended the discussion, which focused on the coalition’s ongoing efforts to engage policymakers in the urgency of ensuring that government contracts reflect the cost of services provision. Years of inflation that came in the aftermath of the acute stage of the COVID-19 pandemic intensified the challenges faced by service providers to recruit and maintain workers engaged in vital front-line work. Leverenz noted that the rising costs of living provide strong incentives to leave for less intensive employment opportunities that provide better compensation.
Hosted by the Hawaiʻi Alliance of Nonprofit Organizations (HANO), HANOCON is Hawaii’s largest annual gathering of nonprofit professionals–as well as sector allies, supporters, and advocates–to network, learn, share ideas, collaborate, and partner.
