Congratulations to Community Relations Manager Andrew Ogata, who recently received the Cleve Jones HIV-AIDS Leadership Award. The award is named after the AIDS and LGBT activist who conceived the NAMES Project AIDS Memorial Quilt and co-founded the San Francisco AIDS Foundation. Jones’s autobiography, When We Rise: My Life in the Movement, was turned into a limited series by Dustin Lance Black, Oscar-winning screenwriter of Gus Van Sant’s Milk.
Andrew joined HHHRC Medical Director Dr. Christina Wang and Grants & Advancement Manager Nikos Leverenz at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel on November 3 to accept a Business Leadership Hawaii Award on behalf of Executive Director Heather Lusk.
Congratulations to Kua῾ana Project Manager Maddalynn “Maddie” Sesepasara, who received the Jose Julio Sarria Civil Rights Award from the International Court Council (USA, Mexico, and Canada). Shalani Placencia and Sina Sison were awarded the Karina Samala Trans America Award.
